Professional Enhancement Program (PE)

General

In response to requests from eligible state bargaining unit employees, UET is providing financial assistance for eligible employees who attend conferences, seminars, and short-term training programs related to state of Ohio jobs. These training programs must be awarded credentials from an regionally accredited institution, professional society, government agency or by the Independent Third Party Review Panel (ITPR).

Through the Professional Enhancement Program (PE), eligible state bargaining unit employees will receive up to $1,500 per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). All eligible state bargaining unit employees may participate in the PE program. Equipment fees, travel expenses, testing and license fees or any other non-instructional fees are not covered under PE.

The PE program is separate from the Career Improvement Program (CIP) and the Computer Applications Training (CAT) program. Only non-college credit short-term training opportunities that are not covered under either CIP or CAT are offered through the PE program. Eligible state bargaining unit employees are entitled to receive benefits through all three programs.

Guidelines For Prepayment

The Professional Enhancement Prepay program allows your registration to be paid in advance of the short-term training event.

Employees must submit a PE application, a signed copy of the training registration form, fee schedule and proof of awarded credentials such as CEU's to the Union Education Trust. Please allow 30 days before the registration deadline for processing. Employees must have the total cost of the registration available in their PE account to participate in the prepayment program.

If Union Education Trust is unable to prepay, you will be notified in writing. Under these circumstances, the reimbursement option should be considered.

  1. Complete the Professional Enhancement Application. Be sure to specify the name and location of the short-term training you intend to take.
  2. Complete the registration form for the training event you wish to attend. Be sure to sign the registration form.
  3. Attach fee schedule and proof of awarded credentials.
  4. Send the signed PE application form and event registration form to:

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Please allow 30 days before the registration deadline for processing.
  5. If all eligibility requirements are met, UET staff will register you in the training event and send payment to the event provider.
  6. Union Education Trust will mail an Attendance Verification Form to your home address as indicated in the payroll records. Participants are responsible for verifying their registration with the event provider.
  7. After completing the short-term training, ask the instructor to complete and sign the representative section of the UET Attendance Verification Form OR request documentation such as a certificate, verifying (confirming) you attended the training event. Submit the signed Attendance Verification Form to Union Education Trust not more than 30 days after the training event. Failure to return the form may result in the suspension of your PE prepayment option for 12 months from the date of the event.

Reimbursement Process

The Professional Enhancement program offers reimbursement for training you paid for and attended. You are highly encouraged to submit applications prior to the short-term training event for pre-approval (follow the guidelines for reimbursement pre-approval). However, pre-approval by Union Education Trust is not required.

To be eligible for reimbursement, you must submit information on the short-term training event describing the event, proof of payment, proof of awarded credentials, and proof of attendance.
