The ever changing workplace drives UET to take a comprehensive review of the services UET provides to ensure we are meeting the education needs of eligible state bargaining unit employees and enhancing their opportunity to achieve employment security. As we review the services we offer through the UET career counseling program we have learned that the current program is not meeting the state of Ohio bargaining unit employees’ needs. This is reflected in the low number of employees participating in the program. Career counseling, like many other professions, has evolved over time, and the current needs of bargaining unit employees searching for help are better served by the schools’ career guidance professionals. Therefore, beginning January 1, 2014 the UET will no longer offer the career counseling service. UET will reach out to participants who are currently receiving career counseling and will work with them directly through the transitional period.
The UET will continue to offer the online career exploration tools that help employees explore careers and help them choose a career that will provide the opportunity for greater employment security.
New participants who wish to discuss their career goals and educational plans with a professional counselor are encouraged to contact the career services available at the schools they are currently attending or the schools where they are planning to attend. — To access the UET online career exploration tools, click here and login to MyUET.
